Easy Ways To Motivate Yourself To Get Fit

We have all done it, and many of us many times. We promise ourselves that we are going to get in shape, but after embracing the rhetoric we fail to execute; we fail to get the exercise we promised ourselves we would.

Robert J. Davis, author of Fitter Faster: The Smart Way to Get in Shape in Just Minutes a Day, has come up with seven science-based things that can help us keep our promises to get in shape. These suggestions can also keep exercise in our lives as part of a routine.

These seven measures include:

  • Seeking Instant Gratification – While long-term goals may be the reason you have decided to start an exercise program, it is the short-term goal – the short-term realization – that will get you through the next workout.
  • Setting Specific Goals – Generalized goals allow us to fudge our progress. When we set concrete and tangible goals, we can better gauge our progress.
  • Have a Game Plan – This means being a good manager of your time. Davis suggests treating your workouts like important appointments to carve-out and reserve time for our exercise.
  • Shorten Your Workouts –  Research, David says, suggests that high-intensity interval training can greatly reduce the amount of time you need to exercise while producing benefits that are the same as from a conventional moderate-intensity cardio workout.
  • Entertain Yourself – Make your workouts entertaining. Make them into a game. Davis suggests using one of the many interactive exercise apps currently available in the marketplace.
  • Workout with a Friend – “Working out with a friend not only makes exercise more enjoyable but also holds you accountable,” Davis writes.
  • Give Yourself a Money Incentive – Putting your own money on the line can be a useful motivator. Davis suggests giving some of your wealth to a friend who will return it to you upon success or donate it to a cause in your failure. This is a great way to motivate yourself.

These are just a few ideas that can not only help us to keep the promises we make to ourselves about getting in shape but ideas that can move us to include an exercise routine into our schedules for the rest of our lives.
